FAQs

What is speech therapy?

Speech therapy, also known as speech-language therapy, is an intervention aimed to help individuals with communication difficulties (i.e. understanding language, expressing language, producing certain speech sounds, engaging appropriately with peers, etc.). Therapy sessions will differ depending on your child’s skills and needs. Some examples of things we might do in therapy include:

  • reading stories to work on sequencing events, answering Wh- questions, understanding main ideas, making inferences, etc.

  • practicing certain sounds in isolation>syllables> words>phrases>sentences>conversation

  • playing Simon Says to work on recalling/ understanding directions, prepositions, vocabulary, etc.

  • and SO much more!

We’ve never done this before. What should I expect?

Getting started with speech therapy can sometimes be intimidating, but we will support you every step of the way! Beneath the form on our “Get Started” tab, we have our process outlined for you. If you still have more questions, you are welcome to send us a message!

My child has a current IEP from school. Can you work on those goals?

Yes! If your child receives speech therapy during the school year or has already had a recent evaluation from an outside clinic, we are happy to continue working on your child’s existing goals.

Please provide this information on the intake questionnaire and indicate your consent to use this data for therapy.

How do I know if my child might benefit from services?

Sometimes it can be difficult to know whether or not your child might benefit from intervention, especially when you don’t know what they’re “supposed” to know. Every child is different, but if you have concerns, please refer to our “Resources” tab. There you will find information about typical speech, language, and developmental milestones. Additionally, your pediatrician will be able to provide you with more detailed information specific to your child.

We also encourage you to take advantage of our free phone consultation to find out if these services are a good fit for your child!

Will my insurance cover therapy?

Unfortunately, we are not accepting insurance at this time and all services are “out-of-pocket”. A “super bill” may be provided upon request if you would like to independently seek reimbursement from your insurance company.

We accept all major debit, credit, and HSA cards and charge upon completion of each service.

What do you mean by personalized therapy?

After the initial evaluation (or after reviewing your child’s existing evaluation report) we will discuss which therapy options work best for your child’s needs and your family’s lifestyle. Virtual or in-person? 30min or 60min sessions? Direct therapy or parent training? Twice a week or once every other week? We want to customize therapy to fit every unique child!
